The photo series All the Things She Is portrays pianist and composer Maria Baptist: conducting her fifteen-piece all-male orchestra, playing the phone game Tiny Wings on a train, traveling in Tom Ford sunglasses and a leather jacket, staying in countryside inns, sitting backstage beside pizza boxes, or spending time with fellow musicians.
The analog black-and-white photographs are made before, during, and after concerts. They show rehearsals, travel, pauses, and incidental situations away from the stage. The focus is not on the concert as an event, but on the process that makes it possible.
My position is part of this world. As her manager, photographer, and partner, I share the routines from which the images emerge. When I take photographs, the situation does not change: conversations continue, the playing remains undisturbed, no one poses for the camera. The series grows out of this unremarked closeness.
Die Fotoserie All the Things She Is zeigt die Pianistin und Komponistin Maria Baptist: wie sie ihren fünfzehnköpfigen Männerhaufen dirigiert, im Zug das Handyspiel Tiny Wings spielt, in Tom-Ford-Sonnenbrille und Lederjacke unterwegs ist, in Landgasthof-Hotelzimmern übernachtet, backstage neben Pizzakartons sitzt oder Zeit mit ihren Mitmusikern verbringt.
Die analogen Schwarzweißfotografien entstehen vor, während und nach Konzerten. Sie zeigen Proben, Reisen, Pausen und beiläufige Situationen abseits der Bühne. Der Fokus liegt nicht auf dem Konzert als Ereignis, sondern auf dem Ablauf, der es ermöglicht.
Meine Position ist Teil dieser Welt. Als Managerin, Fotografin und Partnerin teile ich die Routinen, aus denen die Bilder entstehen. Wenn ich fotografiere, verändert sich die Situation nicht: Gespräche laufen weiter, das Spielen bleibt ungestört, niemand post in die Kamera. Die Serie entsteht aus dieser Selbstverständlichkeit der Nähe.
